Family time and fireworks are wonderful 4th of July traditions we enjoy each year. Another important part is the tasty American classics.

Celebrate 4th of July with one of these festive desserts.

Flag Cake

Decorate your favorite cake with a complete American flag look. You’ll need fluffy, white icing, 2 pints of strawberries and one pint of blueberries. Wash the berries and cut the strawberries into halves.

Once you frost the cake with the white icing, arrange the blueberries in the top left-hand corner. Press the berries down into the frosting so they don’t roll around. Next, you’ll place the strawberry halves in rows going across the cake horizontally to represent the stripes.

Serve slices of the cake with leftover fruit and a scoop of ice cream.

Red, White & Blue Milkshake

This colorful, frozen treat is great for enjoying poolside or cooling off after playing games.

For the red layer: blend strawberry ice cream, strawberry slices and milk until coarsely chopped. Cover and freeze for 30 to 45 minutes.

For the white layer: Simply blend vanilla ice cream and milk until smooth. Cover in a separate container and freeze for 30 to 45 minutes.

For the blue layer: Blend blueberry smoothie (or blueberry juice blend) with vanilla ice cream and blueberries until coarsely chopped. Again, freeze for 30 to 45 minutes.

Scoop the layers one at a time into a tall, clear glass for a patriotic theme. Top with remaining blueberries and strawberry slices.

July 4th Dessert Tacos

Put a spin on a typical crepe for red, white and blue tacos. Use a can of biscuits to make crepes by adding flour and rolling flat. Cook one at a time in an oil covered skillet until light, golden brown on each side. Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with sugar and allow them to cool off. Next, add a mixture of whipped cream, sugar, blueberries and strawberries inside. Fold in half and enjoy like tacos! (For extra flavor, sprinkle with chocolate syrup!)

What’s your favorite 4th of July dessert? We hope you have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
